Power goes off for 4 hours at a time, to save power in Ecuador. Life is a little more difficult but not as bad as one might think, maybe this is a lesson for the future for all of us.

When the power goes off, it goes off everywhere within a designated area, no traffic lights etc. When the power comes back another area is cut off for another 4 hrs. and so on. Hard to get around but life goes on...

The reason for these cuts are due to a pro-longed lack of rain in Ecuador over the last few months, therefore not having enough water for the hydro-electric plants. Lessons to be learned for the future of Quito if we have severe weather changes in the future.

For the first time in ages we see stars in the sky right above the city of Quito in Eucador.

Life with out power, I''ll try and blog a little more about what its like to live with 35% less power.

Please take the time to have a look at this great interactive map about the future of climate change, this affects us all. LINK

San Francisco de Quito, most often called Quito, is the capital city of Ecuador in northwestern South America. It is located in north-central Ecuador in the Guayllabambariver basin, on the eastern slopes of Pichincha,[1]

Quito is the second most populous city in Ecuador, after Guayaquil. It is also the capital of the Pichincha province and the seat of Metropolitan District of Quito. The canton recorded a population of 1,842,201 residents in the 2001 national census. In 2008 the city was designated as the headquarters of the Union of South American Nations.[3]

The central square of Quito is located about 25 km (15 miles) south of the equator; the city itself extends to within about 1 km (0.6 miles) of zero latitude. A monument and museum marking the general location of the equator is known locally as la mitad del mundo (the middle of the world), to avoid confusion, as the word ecuador is Spanish for equator.
