Jon: Makes sense to make a deposit, but I do have one more thing to tell you. I can have pretty bad asthma and am slightly worried about the elevation of the trip... that''s the ONLY thing that would keep me from doing it. I''m going to chat with my doc next week and see if she has any reservations, but I''m really strong physcially and mentally; just have this )(**&% lung issue. Have you ever had anybody that''s had to turn around? Or what would happen in that case? I have to think worse case scenarios to be smart. Does this freak you out or is it workable?

Thank you for your email and for letting us know your concerns.
Personally I would have no worries about sending you on the Quilotoa trip. First of all, if you are flying into Quito which is at 2800m high and more importantly if you see that the pollution isn''t affecting your respiratory condition, then I find it highly unlikely that in the clean air of the Quilotoa Loop you will have any problems, if anything you will feel better. The difference in the amount of oxygen between 2500m and 3500m is very little.
I would also like to say that my main fears of you bringing on an attack would be when doing horse riding or from higher levels of dust in the air. However, I am sure that you would have been tested for allergies & will be bringing ventalin, maybe even talk to your doctor about bringing and epi-pen.
If you were unfortunate enough to have an asthma attack and it was serious enough that you were unable to deal with it yourself then we will drive you to the nearest hospital which would be about 2 hours away. Therefore, the decision is yours and you and your doctor are in the best position to take this decision.
If you would like, just to make you feel a little more relaxed, I will look into taking an oxygen canister with us.
