Galapagos cruises

Hi Ed,

Good talking to you yesterday.
I''m still awaiting feedback about other yachts but so far we have this option. Let me know what you think.

Yacht:               Sulidae
Type:                Motor sailor
Dates:              25th December until 1st January 2008/2009
Price:               $1450 per person

Most yachts offer twin cabin accommodation, however, if you would like to have the second cabin to yourselves, they offer you the chance to pay a certain % of the price per person. Would you like to have the second cabin to yourselves?

The Sulidae is famed for its buccaneer pirate design which makes for a truly unique cruise. Although lacking in some on board services such as hot water this yacht has received consistently good reviews from past clients.

Hi Ed,

Unfortunately we are finding that most boats are either full or chartered over Christmas and New Year. Please find below a few spaces still out there:

1)
Yacht:               Rumba
Type:                Motor Yacht
Dates:              21st until 28th Dec.
Price:               $1340 per person

8 DAY ITINERARY
SUN
Baltra airport, Bachas
MON
Plazas, Santa Fe
TUE
Española: Punta Suarez, Gardner Bay
WED
Floreana
THU
Santa Cruz: Charles Darwin Station, Highlands
FRI
Sombrero chino, Rabida
SAT
Santiago: Sullivan Bay, Bartolome
SUN
North Seymour, Baltra

The Rumba is one of the most popular tourist class yachts because it represents particularly excellent value for money. It is a comfortable yacht with pleasant decor and some nice features.

2)

Yacht:               Eden
Type:                Motor Yacht
Dates:              14th until 21st December 2008
Price:               $2195 per person

TUE
Española: Punta Suarez - Gardner Bay
WED
Floreana
THU
Santa Cruz highlands, Charles Darwin station
FRI
Santiago: James Bay, Bartolomé
SAT

SUN

The Eden has long been considered a reliable yacht offering a good level of service and is one of the most economical of its class.

3) I just discovered that the Darwin has also a few spaces left for 8 days leaving 25th December at $1890 per person.

We understand that end of the year cruises are already filling up.  Here''s comments of the boats you found ...

Sulidae: The price, timing and Daphne, Isabella excursions are a plus.  Can we eliminate the last day on San Cristobal and save us some more money?  It scares me a bit though that is ranked in the lowest, tourist class (http://www.guidetogalapagos.com/).  I''m thinking that hot water might be something we really want after frigid snorkelling.  Reviews are mixed.

Angelique: Don''t think we will arrive that early.

Rumba: Dates are good but no hot water, no a.c. and bunk beds, prefer double beds.

Eden: Nice that it visits Genovese but don''t think we can make it there for 14th departure.  Two single berths per room.

Darwin: We like this the best of the ones you mentioned.  Dates are good.  Reviews of Darwin are good.  Price is right.  Bunk beds are a negative.  (In this scenario does our son Andrew share a cabin with someone else?)  We might even take the Thu thru Mon half trip if we wanted to devote more time to the central highlands.

Samba:  You didn''t mention this one but the sleeping arrangement twin lower, single upper, would make Andrew happy and might get us a better price if the three of us shared a single berth. (Maybe this is a crazy idea.)  I also like that Samba itinerary that goes to west side of Isabella and Fernandina (others that go west and have double/twin beds are Cachalote, Coral II, Coromant II, Diamante, etc.)

Bottomline, we rank the Darwin the highest because of reviews and the schedule.  But before we commit could you see if there is anything like the Samba available, something with twin beds and a cruise that includes Isabella and Ferdinand.

Feel free to contact me by cell phone tomorrow.  I have meetings starting at 9:30, 11:00, 3:30 and 6:30.  Otherwise, I''ll check my emails tomorrow night.

... Ed

First the "bad" news (unless you make a really compelling case to the contrary), we plan to arrive at 10:20 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19th and leave at 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4th.   We think we''d like to do this, since Andrew''s school is really picky about unexcused absences.  We realize that it blows away the possibility of visiting the oriente.  Any objections ... ?

Next the good "news" ... We are O.K. with the Darwin.  It gets lots of good reviews.  Hopefully, Andrew''s bunkmate doesn''t snore!  But I do want to take a moment to whine a bit and say that if you hear of a cruise that goes to the islands of Ferdinand and Isabella, we''d be up for that, too.

So, if we''ll arrive in Quito on Friday night, can we go to Otavallo on Saturday?  Lynne is a little disappointed that the Darwin precludes masks at the Saquisilli market and wants to make up for it at Otavallo (she''ll need some place to store her booty).  From there, I suppose we should "do" the high sierra''s before heading to the Galapagos.  Cotopaxi, horses, Quilitoa ... suggest a good mix of scenic adventure and fun.

When we get back from the Galapagos on the 1st, we still like the Papallacta (sp?) pools, maybe another run at Otavallo or Quito sights, whatever, before heading out Sunday morning.

These are just suggestions ... what do you think will work best?  And total costs, I''m really interested in that number, too.

Look forward to hearing from you so I can confirm our air reservations ... Ed
